About our invertebrates
A healthy reef tank needs a clean-up crew. Snails graze algae from the glass and rock, nassarius snails, conchs and sea cucumbers turn over the sand bed and eat leftover food, and cleaner shrimp pick parasites off your fish.
As a rule of thumb, start with one or two snails per 2–3 gallons and a few emerald crabs, then add showpiece inverts like cleaner shrimp, urchins and anemones once your tank is stable. Invertebrates are sensitive to copper and sudden salinity swings, so drip-acclimate them slowly.
