A big, left-handed whelk that hunts clams; a striking display snail, not a cleaner.
In stock and eating
Lightning whelks are large sea snails whose shells coil to the left, unlike most snails. They hunt clams and other bivalves, wedging them open with the edge of their own shell, so keep them away from clams, scallops and other shellfish you value. Adults can grow more than a foot long and need a large tank with a deep sand bed and regular meals of clams or fresh shellfish.
Hi! Ask us anything about fish, corals, inverts or your order. We’re away from the tanks right now, so leave a message and we’ll answer here and by email.
