Limulus polyphemus
$27.00
A true living fossil, related to spiders, that plows through the sand looking for food.
In stock and eating
Horseshoe crabs are not real crabs but cousins of spiders and scorpions, with a body plan that has barely changed in hundreds of millions of years. Small ones stir and aerate the sand bed, but females can reach about two feet including the tail, so plan for 180 gallons or more with wide open sand. They are not reef safe, and they must be target-fed meaty foods or they slowly starve.
