In plain words: A sea cucumber is a soft, slow animal shaped like a fat sausage. It is a cousin of starfish and sea urchins. These ones come from the warm, shallow seas near Florida and the Caribbean. They live on sand and in sea grass.

About the Atlantic Sea Cucumbers (L)

These large Atlantic sea cucumbers work their way through the sand bed, eating detritus, microalgae and bacterial film. Florida sea cucumbers usually reach about 8 inches, and mixed lots can include bigger species, so they need a large, mature tank (75 gallons or more) with plenty of fine sand to feed on. Guard all intakes and overflows: an injured or dead cucumber can release a toxin that kills fish.
