An extra-large adult coral-type hogfish from Tonga, a showpiece for a big fish-only tank.
In stock and eating
This is an extra-large, fully grown coral-type hogfish from Tonga. Fish sold under this name can be either of two similar species, the coral hogfish or the axilspot hogfish, both dark reddish-purple in front and pale behind. At this size it needs a large tank, roughly 100 gallons or more, with sturdy rockwork and plenty of swimming room. Adults eat shrimp, crabs, snails and worms and can bully smaller fish, so it suits a fish-only or carefully stocked tank.
