Chaetodon mertensii
$65.00
A small chevron-patterned butterflyfish with a glowing orange-yellow rear, also called the atoll butterflyfish.
In stock and eating
Mertens' butterflyfish is one of the smaller Chaetodon, reaching about 5 inches, with dark V-shaped bars on a white body, a black eye bar and an orange-yellow band across the rear. It is not reef safe, since it picks at coral polyps and small invertebrates. Keep it in a mature fish-only tank with plenty of rock, add any other butterflyfish at the same time, and feed meaty and algae-based foods several times a day.
