A medium Mermaid's Fan: a calcified green alga with a flat, ruffled fan on a short stalk.
In stock and eating
Mermaid's fan grows a single leathery, fan-shaped blade on a stalk, anchored in the sand by a root-like holdfast. It hardens its tissue with calcium carbonate, so it does best in a reef tank or refugium where calcium and alkalinity are kept up. Plant the holdfast in a sandy spot with good light and moderate flow. This is a medium piece.
